Insightful Quotes
Warren Wiersbe
“Keep your ministry on a miracle basis. If you can explain what’s going on, God didn’t do it” (Dr. Robert A. Cook).
Dr. Bob Cook (1912-1991) was one of the founders of Youth for Christ International, president of the organization from 1948-1957 and president of the King’s College, Briarcliff Manor, NY. He had a tremendous impact on my own life personally and on the lives of tens of thousands of people through his preaching, writing and radio ministry. His “pep talks” to YFC workers were a combination of blood transfusions, strong shots of adrenalin and occasionally a kick in the pants.
During my four years on the staff of Youth for Christ International, my wife and I learned what it meant to trust God and expect miracles. It’s easy to have a routine ministry, but what will it accomplish? It’s when we step out by faith and trust God for the impossible that He gets the glory and we experience the greatest blessing. Bob Cook’s successor at YFCI, Dr. Ted W. Engstrom (1916-2006), was also a man of faith who trusted God to keep things on a miracle basis, and he did. When this is your philosophy of ministry, you learn to pray and to wait for the Lord to work.
