I. FOUNDATIONAL TRUTHS REGARDING THE CHURCH.
1 Cor. 1:1

3 uses of Apostles in the New Testament

1. A messenger. Jn. 13:16
2. Those sent by the churches. 2 Cor. 8:23
3. Applied to only those Jesus called as Apostles. Lk. 6:13

THIS HAS A TWO-FOLD MEANING:

1. The foundation of the church is Jesus. 1 Cor. 3:11
2. The doctrinal foundation is apostolic teaching.

II. THE GENESIS OF THE CHURCH. 1 Cor. 1:2

III. THE SANCTIFICATION OF THE CHURCH. 1 Cor. 1:2, 9
vs. 2 “sanctified”

“saints by calling”

IV. THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CHURCH. 1 Cor. 1:4, 7, 8
A. The outcome of grace.

B. The evidence of grace.

C. The expectation of grace.

V. THE SOLIDARITY AND STABILITY OF THE CHURCH.
1 Cor. 1:10-17

A. It is built around truth.

B. It is maintained by a commitment to unity.

3 FACTS THAT SHOULD ELIMINATE BEING MAN-CENTERED:

1. The nature of Christ.. vs. 1:13
2. The nature of atonement. vs. 1:13
3. The nature of baptism.
