Critical Eerdmans Commentary. 971 pages. No light reading here. The author says, “The Hebrew text of the Psalter contains words with uncertain and sometimes unknown meanings. In the past two centuries, many translators have thought that such words represented scribal errors. With great care and sometimes brilliant ingenuity, scholars emended these words in order to obtain an acceptable sense, but the validity of these emendations was often not demonstrable. As far as possible, I have rigorously respected the scribal testimony of the Jewish tradition….” An expensive work but valuable for the true student of Scripture.
