– Edwin H. Palmer. Baker Books.
This book is a reprint of a 1972 book which has been enlarged with a study guide included. The format of the book is easy to follow for those who are interested in looking at the basic teaching of John Calvin. Readers will disagree with some points along the way (page 97, I disagreed with his concept of God foreordaining the presence of sin!). But overall Palmer appears to be a moderate Calvinist who seeks to handle Scripture and controversy with integrity. Often, the author reminded the reader of the paradoxical nature of God (example, page 85: the sovereignty of God and the freedom of man). This book is an easy-to-understand introduction to Calvinist thought. Reviewed by Ron Perry.
