Do Americans make a connection between God and natural disasters? A recent survey by Public Religion Research Institute and Religion News Service about the earthquake and tsunami in Japan says we do. Here are some of our opinions:
56% say God is in control of everything that happens in the world.
38% believe earthquakes, floods and other natural disasters are a sign from God.
29% believe that God sometimes punishes nations for the sins of its citizens.
59% of white evangelical Protestants believe natural disasters are a sign from God.
53% of white evangelical Protestants belive God judges nations for the sins of of some of their citizens.
44% of Americans say the severity of recent natural disasters is evidence of what the Bible calls the “end times.”
