It All Starts at Home

Prov. 22:6 tells us to, “Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Dr. Larry Harris has written a heart warming book that undergirds the truth of this proverb using anecdotal examples from his family. Story after story reminds the reader the importance of family in rearing children. Of the nine children of Fred and Ruth Harris, all have graduated college, three have obtained masters degrees, and three have doctorates. This is not a story of academics however, it is a story of faith based character and how reproducing Christ like character in your children produces adults that hold dearly both to faith and family. Dr. Harris has penned fifteen principles learned from his parents to help keep family first. While these guidelines are not strictly speaking scriptural, they find their genesis in faith in Christ. The Harris family was and is active in the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
