Godly Wisdom for Life and Faith

Proverbs 3:5, 6

  • The choices you make determine the road you take.
  • You make your choices, then your choices make you.

If you are going to get the most out of Proverbs, you have to begin with some basic truths:
1) The existence of good and evil
2) The existence of God and Satan
3) The existence of heaven and hell
4) The existence of choices and consequences

I. Godly Wisdom Is Available for All Who Seek It
A. God is committed to revealing Himself to man.
– Revealed Himself to Adam
– Revealed His will to Noah
– Revealed His covenant to Abraham
– Revealed His truth to the Prophets
– Revealed Himself through Jesus Christ
– Reveals His mind through the Scriptures

      If I want God's wisdom, I can get it. It's not just for the elite. It comes in two ways:
      1) Revelation
      2) Exploration

      Are you willing to receive it? (2:1)
      Are you willing to apply it? (2:2)
      Are you asking God for it? (2:3)
      Are you passionate in the pursuit of it? (2:4)

 B. God is committed to seekers.
      He gives us three promises to those who seek Him:
      1) He will be our supplier. (2:7)
      2) He will be our shield. (2:7b)
      3) He will be our sentinel. (2:8)

II. The Godly Person Decides to Walk by Faith (3:5, 6)

 "The more I am in a position for my faith to be tried with reference to my body, my family, my services for the Lord, my business, etc., the more opportunity I will have of seeing God's help and deliverance." - George Mueller

 Prerequisites for finding God's wisdom and walking by faith:
 1) I must have an attentive ear. (1:5)
 2) I must turn from evil. (3:11, 12)

III. The Godly Person Is Devoted to and Directed by Faith

 "When once the decision is made, let us never look back. Let us never dare to suppose that God would fail them that trust Him or permit them to make a mistake. If difficulties arise, they do not prove us to be wrong, and probably they are less by this path than they are by any other. Go forward. The way has been prepared; the mountains are a way; the rivers have fords, the lions are chained, the desert shall be a highway to the land that flows with milk and honey." - J.
