The Purpose of God and the People of God

Joshau 1:10, 11

I. Joshua was faithful.
– My strengths are no help to God.
– My weaknesses are not a hindrance to Him.

II. Joshua was available.

III. Joshua was teachable.

 If you're going to walk by faith, you have to follow the pattern of Joshua:
 1) Get up.
 2) Start walking.
 3) Don't stop.

IV. God’s call on His people today.

 God has a plan and purpose for your life:

 A. Blessed us

 B. Chose us

 C. Predestined us
      1) It is "in him."
      2) It is "before the creation of the world."
      3) It is for a specific purpose: "to be holy and blameless in his sight."
      4) It is an act of "love" -- the result of nothing we have done but solely on the basis of God's love, mercy and grace.

Election:

  • Is God’s idea not man’s
  • Is an incentive to please God with our lives
  • Is a reminder we are not our own
  • Is an incentive to worship and to live a God-glorifying life

Human responsibility:

  • Demands that I willingly confess Jesus as Lord
  • Demands I live my life in the will of God for the glory of God
  • Demands that I be faithful, available, and teachable, growing in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ all the days He gives us
