Kyle Dodig, 38, began a year-long search after realizing the Catholic realized he wasn’t sure he believed in God. He read the Bible in search of ways to “bring faith back into his life.” Every weekend for 12 months he promised to visit a different place of worship. “I guess you could say I’m sort of comparison shopping,” says Dodig. In a study of 35,000 American adults conducted by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public life, 44% had abandoned their childhood religious roots for a different denomination or none at all. “Dodig says he picked up a Bible at a cousin’s house in 2006 and read stories he didn’t realize had biblical origins. ‘I just said, “Wow, this is amazing stuff.” It was at that point I realized I needed to do more.'”
