The Story File, Steve May, Hendrickson Publishers. Also contains a CD-Rom. Over 1,000 illustrations arranged by category type, topic or Scripture verse.
Fresh Illustrations. A few years ago, Baker Books did a series of helpful books for pastors. They include: Illustrations for Preaching & Teaching from Leadership Journal; Choice Contemporary Stories & Illustrations for Preachers, Teachers, & Writers; both edited or written by Craig Brian Larson. Also in the series you’ll find two other books: Humor for Preaching & Teaching from Leadership Journal & Christian Reader, edited or written by Edward K. Rowell.
1,001 Great Stories & Quotes, by R. Kent Hughes, Tyndale. Hughes is known for his excellent use of illustrations in his commentaries. Now he has pulled together stories from over thirty years of reading, teaching and preaching.
The Tale of the Tardy Oxcart, and 1,501 Other Stories, Charles R. Swindoll, Word Books. Swindoll shares his own illustrations as well as those of others.
The Vance Havner Notebook, Sermon Excerpts, Illustrations, Compiled by Dennis Hester, Baker Books. A great resource that will help you get to know one of the great prophets/ preachers of the 20th century.
