Read Daniel 3
What a dramatic story this is! And what a thrilling example of faith and courage. Christian men today may not face the ordeal of a fiery furnace, but they do face situations almost as demanding. How easy it is to “cut corners” or “cross your fingers” and forget that you belong to the Lord! The three Hebrew children could have found all kinds of excuses for obeying the king’s command, but they preferred to obey the Word of God.
“Our God . . . is able.” This has been the testimony of believing saints down through the years. He is able to deliver. God does not promise to keep us out of difficulties, but rather to bring us out. He permitted the three men to go into the furnace–and then went in with them! He shares every trial you experience and enables you to come out a stronger and a better man and, through it all, to glorify Him.
God is able to keep. “Unto him that is able to keep you from falling” (Jude 24). At the beginning of your Christian life, you probably asked yourself, “Am I able to remain true to the Lord? Do I have the strength to hold out?” Then you discovered that He holds you! He is able to keep you from falling, or, as others translate it, stumbling. The good Shepherd cares for His sheep.
God is able to provide all that you need. Read 2 Corinthians 9:8 in your Bible, and mark it. And believe it!
Our God is able. No, let’s make it personal: MY GOD IS ABLE!
