This Is Built By God’s Wisdom

1 Cor. 1:18-2:16

I. THE CHARACTER OF THE GOSPEL. 1:18-25

Resistance to the righteousness of God.
Rejection of the revelation of God.
Refusal to recognize God.

Our responsibility to lead them to Christ.

God’s purpose is to show us HIS power and wisdom as the only answer:

1. Israel was saved by putting their trust in Jehovah.
2. The failure of man’s best thinking. (vs. 20)
3. The wisdom of God. (vs. 21)

II. THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE CHURCH. 1:26-31

III. THE MINISTRY OF THE MEMBERSHIP. 2:1-5

A. THE MINISTRY HAS A CLEAR MESSAGE. 2:2

Lenski, “to preach nothing but Christ crucified, is in no way restrictive…it is, in fact, a comprehensive summary of the gospel; it is Jesus Christ in His perfect humanity, His divine messianic dignity, His willing obedience to the Father even to the death of the cross, His perfect offering of Himself as a substitute for sinners, the power of His death to breach the strongholds of Satan and end the reign of sin, our union with Him in that death and in His subsequent resurrection, and the guarantee in His perfect atonement of His ultimate enthronement.”
